My washing machine will not start a programme

Having loaded your washing machine with clothes and detergent, selecting the appropriate programme, the washing machine should start the programme once the door is locked.

Pressing the start button will normally lock the door, sometimes an audible click can be heard, once the interlock has locked the programme progresses to water fill and drum action. Whilst different manufacturers run their programmes their own way, generically most washes will not fill or have drum action until the door is locked.

If your washing machine does not start, try the door handle, check to see if indeed the door has locked. If you have to slam the door to get it to start or as some consumers do, bash and bang the door, then there is an interlock or latch handle problem with the door locking mechanism.

If your washing machine door does lock then the fault lies within the the next sequence of the programme or the electronic pcb itself.
