My turntable turns ok but not with any weight on it.

Between the gearbox drive and the turntable is a small coupling, usually removeable from under the turntable glass. Check this coupling out for cracks and slipping on the turntable drive shaft. Also have a look at any turntable glass support that has wheels, these can cause similar problems as the wheels wear or stick.
